2002 US Sailing Disabled Championship
Chicago Yacht Club, Chicago, IL
August 3-6, 2002

This annual event brings out the elite sailors in two classes of sailboats from both Canada and the United States.  The crew boat (Freedom 20) requires two disabled sailors and one-able-bodied sailor.  The single-handed boat (Norlin Mark III 2.4mR) requires one sailor.

The racing is run by the Race Committee of the Chicago Yacht Club.

The first two days are used to complete two heats to select the top sailors from each group.  The final day is broken down into the Silver and Gold Fleets.  The Gold fleet is made up of the the top six boats in each class.

The racing is very competitive in both classes.  The conditions were light winds and a medium chop for both Saturday and Sunday.  The Monday morning weather condition for the Silver Fleet was similar, without the chop, with the wind building slightly during the morning.  The afternoon races for the Gold fleet were performed in more challenging conditions with the wind and waves building throughout the afternoon.
